Location

The Blue Mango in the Himalayas retreat is located in Spiti , Himachal Pradesh. It is an area of high mountains and narrow valleys bounded by Ladakh to the North, Tibet to the east,  Kinnaur to the south-east and the Kullu valley to the south.
Most people in the Spiti are Buddhists, and colourful gompas dot its beautiful Himalayan villages. The local language spoken here is Bhoti, which is very similar to Tibetan. The most handy word here is jule (pronounced joo-lay) - which is colloquially used for hello, goodbye, and thank you.

Weather

The summers in Spiti are from May to September and these months are bright and sunny. The skies are a crisp blue and crystal clear on most days. Although winters are extremely cold, Spiti witnesses approximately 250 days of sunshine in a year. It can get windy at certain times. The maximum summer temperatures vary from 20-29 degrees Celsius and the minimum between 5-15 degrees Celsius.  On an odd day, the night temperature may dip down to 2 degrees Celsius. Scanty and sporadic rainfall is likely in July/ August, however as this is a cold desert, rainfall is always sparse.

During a clear, sunny day, one will need a comfortable full sleeved non-woollen garment. But always keep a jacket handy as the wind can make the temperature drop instantly. Warm clothing is required for the evenings. A detailed list of clothing and other essentials will be provided to all retreat participants.
